Capability 02

Wargaming and red teams

Scenarios drawn from real Ukrainian situations, adversary course-of-action work, and tactical wargames.

Exercises are only as good as the adversary in them. We help you with red teaming and devil’s advocate work, to help you better take into account the Russian way of war and military thinking. We also use our expertise on the Ukrainian battlefields to better evaluate the impact UAV, contested spectrum and other battlefield phenomena would have on your units.

We can help in the pre-planning, drafting and running of exercise sessions as well as provide a professional red team to lead the opposing troops.

What this includes

  • Battalion, brigade and army level exercise building. We can give you examples of real Ukrainian battles and let you see with your own eyes, what choices were made and how they impacted the battlefield.
  • Enemy course-of-action analysis (ECOA). The analysis of enemy thinking and actions can be tailored to your geographical area of responsibility. We use our detailed database of Russian troop locations, organizations and equipment to help you better understand what type of an enemy you would be up against.
  • Tactical wargames. Based on real events, at team, platoon or company and battalion level, and specialised by branch — how supply or signals actually behave under modern battlefield conditions.
  • Wargame and scenario development. Complete scenarios designed and deployed on a consultative basis, to save career officers’ time or to support a company’s product development.

“And here is what actually happened”

A well built exercise can in a short session completely change how the participants understand the modern battlefield:

  1. Participants receive a scenario built from a real situation in the Ukrainian frontlines, with the background material and roles that were available at the time.
  2. They produce their own intelligence assessment or tactical decision, under realistic constraints. The session progresses interactively.
  3. The participants are then shown what actually happened.
  4. The discussion often turns to how Russian forces really behaved — and where the room’s reasoning diverged from the event.
